Below are the instructions for installing this product. Scores Manager can be installed on a single computer or on multiple computers connected via a Local Area Network.

The data for Scores Manager is stored in a Microsoft SQL Database. If you already have a suitable SQL Server use the SQL Utility provided to create the required database, if not, a copy of MSDE is included on this CD. MSDE is a trimmed down version of SQL Server designed to run on a desktop, and is more than capable of supporting the requirements of Scores Manager.

Warning: Selecting a “Single Computer Installation” will install MSDE onto the local computer by default.

Single Computer Installation

1. Install the build CD provided; this should automatically start the installation. If Autorun is disabled on your computer, run <CD Drive>:\Setup.exe.
2. Follow the instructions on screen with regard to the installation and menu locations. When given the option for Setup Type, select “Single Computer Installation”.
3. For a “Demo” installation leave the license key as “demo”. If you have a license key, type or copy & paste the key into the box provided.
4. Once the installation routine has copied all of the required files to you computer, it will need to be restarted. Allow the computer to restart before proceeding with the configuration.
5. Once the computer has restarted, the first step is to start the MSDE Database Server. In the Notification section of the Windows Task Bar, usually located bottom left of you screen, you will find an icon for the SQL Service Manager. Double-click this to open it. Select “Start/Continue” to start the server. You may also wish to select “auto-start service when OS start”; this will ensure the MSDE server is always available.
6. Follow instructions below on how to create the Scores Manager database and tables. Once completed you are ready to use the system.
7. The first time any of the applications are opened they may ask for the name of the database server being used. For a “single computer installation” enter a dot “.” (Without the quotes).

Multi-Computer Installation

Scores Manager has 5 basic modules; each of these can be installed on separate or several computers. It may be desirable for a shotgun start to have multiple computers configured with the main application to allow the score cards to be processed, or in a large club house several projection computers may be used, one for each room or area. The only requirement is that all computers are connected via a Microsoft Windows compatible local area network to the database server.
The possible options are:
1. Main Application Main program used to configure tournaments, manage players, enter scores and preview results.
2. Viewer Components (Draw / Pairings Viewer, Results Viewer) Two viewer used to display onto a big screen using either and LCD Projector or TV screen.
3. Microsoft Database Server (Desktop Version) All Scores Manager data is stored in an SQL Database; there must be at least one database server on the network, and all components must be configured to access it.
4. Auto Calc Utility To increase the speed of entering individual score cards, the actual calculations of divisional membership and current standings are not performed in real-time within the main application. Therefore, if the 5. Results Viewer is to be used, a single copy of AutoCalc must be running to update the players' scores and positions in real-time.
5. SQL Utility This is used to create, drop, and manage the Scores Manager database.

Create Scores Manager Database

On installation with existing Microsoft SQL Servers, or with new MSDE installations, a new Scores Manager Database must be created. To create this database you must have three pieces of information - the Database Server Name, a User Name with administrator access rights and a Password to match the User Name.

1. From the “Start Menu” select Programs -> Scores Manager -> SQL Utility.
2. Enter the SQL Server Name, the User Name and the Password in the boxes provided. If using a new MSDE installation the User Name and Password are already entered. If using a local copy of MSDE, the SQL Server name is dot “.” (Without the quotes).
3. Press the “New Install” button.
4. Exit the SQL Utility.
